Music – Curriculum information

At Adelaide Primary School, we are committed to delivering a rich and inclusive music education that inspires creativity, develops technical skills, and nurtures a lifelong appreciation of music among all our pupils. We strive to provide high-quality music provision that is ambitious, accessible, and tailored to meet the needs of every child.

Our music curriculum ensures all pupils, regardless of background or ability, engage with a diverse range of musical styles, genres, and traditions through regular opportunities for singing, instrumental learning, composition, and performance. We focus on building pupils’ knowledge and skills progressively from early years through to Year 6, supporting their journey from foundational musical awareness to becoming a confident, independent musician.

Active participation is at the heart of our approach, with pupils encouraged to engage in activities such as choir, ensemble work, and live performances, fostering confidence and collaboration. Additionally, we enrich their experience by exposing them to professional musicians and live music, helping them to see music as a dynamic and living art form. We believe music has the power to transform the educational journey of our pupils, building creativity, resilience, and a sense of community that extends far beyond the classroom.

What do our pupils think about our music curriculum –

“I really enjoy listening to different genres of music.”

“It’s fun learning to play the clarinet. The more I practice, the better I become.”

“I love listening to music in lessons because it helps me focus.”

“I like learning to sing new songs. It makes me feel calm and happy.”
