Writing – curriculum information

At Adelaide Primary School, we aim to ensure that all pupils develop a secure knowledge of linguistic conventions in order to become confident story tellers and writers of a range of texts.

We therefore believe that it is vital for our pupils to acquire a wide vocabulary and a deep understanding of punctuation and grammar. We firmly believe that written communication is a vital life skill for all our pupils.

Our teachers therefore aim to inspire pupils to write clearly, accurately and coherently; adapting their language and style for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences.

“Sentence Sam is in our classroom. He helps you to remember your capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, phonics and exclamation marks. It’s a good idea.”

“I enjoy writing because I get to write my own George’s Marvellous Medicine. We get to make our own potions and I sometimes make potions at home. My teacher makes writing fun!”

“Sometimes it’s tricky to come up with ideas but my teacher helps me in school.”
